A great many things Emily and Joe are, but traditional is not one of them. In fact, I’d take a stab in the dark and guess they think of what people expect to see at a wedding, think about whether it matters to them at all, and then totally forget about it if the answer is no. Needless to say, Joe did not insist on seeing Emily at the ceremony for the first time on their wedding day. But when we spoke about it, they hadn’t put any thought into where or how they wanted to arrange their first look.
Portland is Joe’s hometown. So we more or less left it to him as he wanted a meaningful location. As it turned out, the house rental Emily and the girls chose was in in Northwest Portland and just across the street from a massive staircase. Emily walked down all those stairs to see Joe waiting for her at the base with all their friends looking on as the saw each other for the first time.
Some first looks are teary, others dripping in romance. For theirs, excitement was brimming from every body on the stone stairs. And Emily couldn’t wait to surprise Joe. I love a good first look, and I’ve never quite seen one like this. I loved it. And I’m pretty sure everyone else did, too. See more of their Union Pine wedding on our website!
