We continue our new series “Wedding Talk” with an interview of Le Cookie Monkey by our own My Portland Photographer, Paul Rich. Each month we plan to showcase a local wedding vendor and the talents of our photographers.

Le Cookie Monkey opened their doors in 2009. Their decadent, funky, sweet hand-crafted cookies and cakes reflect their passion and commitment to making you smile. They use local, fresh ingredients to bring out the best in their unique recipes. Here is the interview between Paul Rich and Amber Darrington, Pastry Chef and Owner of Le Cookie Monkey.

I recently had the opportunity to connect with Amber from Le Cookie Monkey. Her desserts are incredibly unique and absolutely delicious. I wanted to provide MPP readers with some additional information about her business and her services.

Paul: What makes your work unique?
Amber: Everything is hand made and always from scratch and totally fresh, never frozen!

Paul: What additional dessert options do you offer couples beyond cookies?
Amber: All kinds of yummy goodies such as cupcakes, wedding cakes, mini desserts like fresh fruit tarts, lemon curd tarts, chocolate mousse cups, mini s’mores, and whoopie pies!

Paul: What are some budget friendly/more creative/different ways to incorporate dessert into the wedding reception?
Amber: Since we offer a wide range of mini desserts, I think doing an assortment especially of our mini cookies, combined with some mini cupcakes and tarts is a fun and affordable way to go! It offers your guests lots of choices to enjoy as well as it being easy to grab and savor.

Paul: Do you offer cookie tastings (like a cake tasting)?
Amber: Oh yes! I most certainly do dessert tastings for sure! It’s a great way to sample our products and also to talk about what your vision is for dessert and see if we’re a good fit for you!

Paul: What are some of the more unique designs you have created?
Amber: One of the most unique designs I’ve created for a wedding cake include one where each tier was a different buttercream texture! It was super fun to make, and looked really cool:)

Paul: What should couples do to prepare for meeting with you to discuss their dessert ideas?
Amber: Its fun if couples have some pictures of their theme or ideas for what they want their wedding to look like. I like to help them create their dessert vision if that’s what they need!


Paul: How early or late in the planning process do couples typically meet with you to solidify their dessert choice?
Amber: Booking their wedding with us I recommend 6 months in advance. The final dessert choices and details we don’t need until 1-2 weeks prior to the wedding, as we make everything fresh for their big day!

Paul: Do you deliver to reception sites?
Amber: We most certainly do! Delivery for wedding cakes and desserts in the Portland Metro is $35. And depending on any other sites outside of Portland, the fee may increase due to mileage.

Paul: Who is your ideal client?
Amber: My ideal client is a couple who loves dessert!!!
