Getting Ready at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church

Church weddings full of tradition and grandeur, but photographing the bridal and groom prep can be a challenge.  While some churches have rooms specially dedicated for the bride and her attendants to dress, many wedding parties dress in the primary Sunday School classes, or church board rooms.  As photographers,  we  find a way to reflect the story of the day in whatever setting we’re given.

St. Patricks is a Northwest gem and the oldest Catholic  church in Portland.  The architecture is classic, the window light is gorgeous, and the acoustics are wonderful.   Traditionally, the bride, her mother, and attendants dress in the stage area below the main chapel.  When it’s time for the ceremony, the wedding coordinator escorts the bride  through the fellowship hall and to her father, who waits at the chapel doors to escort her down the aisle.  And…you know the rest.
