Don’t Forget the Pups!

So many of us feel like our dogs are a part of our family, but we fear that they’re not quite well behaved enough to bring along on an engagement session or a wedding. If this is how you feel, you’re not alone! Because they’re family, because our dogs bring out so much of who we are, and because they can make for utterly adorable images, more and more people are figuring out ways to include their dogs – even the rowdy ones! – in both their weddings and engagements.

Some people go so far as to have their dogs participate in the ceremony, while others simply want to make sure they’re there for the posed portraits. The easiest way to do this is to assign someone to be your dog handler for the day, with a set time to bring your pup(s) to the event, then to transport them home when their “job” is done or when they get overwhelmed with the stimulation. If this kind friend of yours also happens to bring them for a walk or a run beforehand, even better!

Don’t be shy about asking. Some people genuinely feel better when given a task at big events (speaking from personal experience here!) – and you might find that you know just the friend that would feel honored to be given the task of spending time with your pup. A small but thoughtful thank-you gift for them will make them feel all that much more appreciated.

Angie and Jim (pictured above) opted to bring both their dogs along for their engagement session, then the better behaved of the two had the opportunity to be one of the groomsmen at their wedding. While both their pups only had a small cameo in each event, it made their experience (and their images) so much richer!
