Private Charter
Is your ceremony site different from your reception site? If you are in downtown Portland you can charter a streetcar to take your guests between the two locations. Nobody gets lost, everybody arrives on time!
From the Ace Hotel, Jen and Mike loaded their guests on to a streetcar (stocked with a full bar of course!) and took them on a pleasant scenic route through Portland before arriving at their waterfront wedding site. VERY Portland.
Great Big Etsy World
It was important to Sanne and Christian that Sanne’s daughter Manna be included in all the ways of their wedding right down to the cake. Sanne set out to find cake toppers that would well represent the family that this marriage would be affirming. Not so easy in Holland! She put her sister in the USA up to the task.
Portland’s Lace and Rubbish, an Etsy find, came to the rescue deligting everybody with these custom made toppers. Perfect!

Light and Light
It’s that lovely light, that lasts about five minutes. Whitney and Kalin were happy to be led away from dinner for a few moments alone before the sun retired. The moon took over to help light their first dance.

Gefeliciteerd!
Last week, on the way to their Holland farm country reception, newlyweds Christian, Sanne and daughter Mana stopped in the little village of Durgerdam to take advantage of the lovely light. The frequent passing bicyclists shouted out their congratulations to the couple, “Gefeliciteerd!”.
Lucky for their wedding photographer; virtually everybody in Holland can speak English. Otherwise I would have been plowed down by bicyclists on day one.

More Fun With Brad and Laura
Some folks have a first ceremonial dance together. Some have a first ride.
I must say that this is one of the funnest additions to a wedding celebration that I have seen in a long while. The guests became braver by the hour and those who never thought they would take a turn kept coming back for more!

Gettin’ Hitched
Laura and Brad were Hitched this weekend at the fabulous Highland Meadows Ranch near Mosier, Oregon. The couple live, work, and windsurf in Hood River, and were eager to share their neck of the woods with friends and family traveling from their respective home towns of Boston and Detroit. They delighted their guests with a rustic wedding with all the western trimmings, including a mechanical bull (more on that next week!) which is my new favorite ice breaker for wedding receptions.

Think About an Engagement Session
Liz and Nathan recently decided to add an engagement portrait to their wedding package. They were getting a bit nervous about “What do we do about being photographed? ” at their upcoming September wedding. Maybe a little practice was in order for this super busy Med school couple.
We found the time, after a couple of missed tries and everybody came out of the session relaxed and confident. I encouraged them to be them, they did. I got it. All is well.

Happy Crying
No, really, they are happy tears!
Matt and Beth alternated between tears and laughter during their lively ceremony last month at the downtown Unitarian church.
Love brings out the best in all of us.

About the Kids
I have many brides say to me “It’s all about the kids”, meaning there will be a lot of them on hand, and don’t skimp on kid shots. I won’t. They are great subjects and most haven’t learned the adult art of putting on a face for the camera. (A habit I will try to break you of!)
Pictured here are three caught in the act of being themselves at Jed and Amy’s wedding at Persimmons Country Club. My guess is many years from now, looking back at these images as adults, they will recognize that their personality traits were already well established and on display; before they learned to blend in.

Matt and The Groomsmen
Sometimes I just yell “Assume the Position!” at whatever group I am about to photograph. It gives me a quick sketch of who I am dealing with. Some people line up like soldiers, some people put on big frozen grins, some people try to disappear.. and some are theatre majors.
I knew Matt was a singer/musician, but I had no idea his crew would instantly channel Gene Kelly. These are my kind of guys!
Want more showbiz?: Ha! I have a new blog… or half a blog, it’s a start. Come see me.

Sweet Sunday Sessions
While these past few engagement sessions have been challenged by rain, I really don’t mind so much. Ryan and Elizabeth didn’t either, content to snuggle before the light provided by a rain splattered window – confident their late July wedding would be plenty warm enough! We finished up the session at Bridgeport Brewery where they had their first real date.

April Bride
It’s Saturday afternoon and Lindsey is beaming because in the time it took to put her dress on and step outside of the Acadian Ballroom, the rain had stopped for good. It was an added sweet relief for an already extra special day.

When is your wedding date?
Cannon Beach Wedding
This iconic beach was packed earlier in the day when Aaron and Becca tied the knot. After some dinner and dancing we trooped out to the now deserted beach for a a sunset walk. It doesn’t get any better.
