Fathers & Daughters
As someone who is close to my dad, this image resonated with me. It reminded me of what a big deal a wedding is, not only for the couple, but also for the people who have raised you, watched you grow, and loved you unconditionally. They, too, are agreeing to share their life with your true love. It’s a beautiful thing.

The Recessional
The walk back up the aisle as a newly married couple is one of the most genuinely happy moments of any wedding day. We always get a photo of each couple, arm in arm, wearing big smiles, heading back up the aisle together.
At the Oregon Garden, I had the opportunity to take this photo after the bride and groom had passed by me during the recessional. I love the wide-open space and the two flower girls following behind them. To me, it’s symbolic of them venturing out into their new life together.

Dapper
On the day that Jon and Lindsey were married, Jon looked sharp in a bespoke suit that he had made especially for the day. He wore a pocketwatch that was similar to the the watches he gave each of his groomsmen. Each of the watches was engraved with their initials and Jon and Lindsey’s wedding date. As a nod to his design background, Jon wore Pantone chip cufflinks.
As much as we love photographing moments, we know that the details of your wedding day can also tell a story.

Going to the Chapel
Unplanned and unguarded moments during a wedding day are my absolute favorite to photograph. When Serena’s bridesmaids, mother and, eventually, Serena began singing an extremely lively rendition of ‘Chapel of Love’ on the way to the church, I was glad I was there to capture their laughter and expressions. What a fun moment! There’s aren’t many times in life that you can sing that song while headed to the chapel to be married:)

A Little Tenderness
A lot of our clients ask us if we’re going to help them pose for portraits. I reassure them that we will give some gentle photo direction during their portrait session. However, I find that when I’m photographing my clients, their natural interactions together turn out to be the moments that are the the most genuine and photogenic.

Waiting for the Light
As a part of the planning process, I often suggest to my clients that, during their reception and after dinner, toasts, and first dances are completed, we take a few moments to do some portraits at sunset. This is when the light is the prettiest. It’s also the time of the day when the couple is the most relaxed.
Many of my clients have said that their sunset portraits were a nice way for them to take a break from the party and enjoy some quality-time together on their wedding day.

Pretty Window Light
As a photographer, I love turning off all of the lights in a room, opening the curtains or blinds, and seeing what the natural light coming through the windows can do. Often, the results are beautiful.

Crème Brûlée and Wine
As Jamie Bosworth pointed out in her post this week, the world needs more champagne and cake. I couldn’t agree more! These two things combined are the perfect way to celebrate any special occasion, especially your wedding day.
However, for your wedding rehearsal, why not celebrate in-style with crème brûlée and wine? This delicious combination was a hit at at Janet and Charles’ wedding rehearsal cocktail party. Rather than having a traditional rehearsal dinner, Janet and Charles hosted a cocktail party where are all of their guests were invited to meet and greet. This gave guests, many who had journeyed from far and wide to attend their wedding, a chance to spend a relaxed evening with the bride and groom.

Make It Personal
“What should we do for our engagement photos?”
I’m often asked this question by our clients. Understandably, it can be hard to choose a location or the feel that you would like for your engagement photo session.
Keep in mind that your engagement is a unique and fleeting time in your relationship. No doubt, there is a love story that prefaces your engagement. Why not include some elements of your history together in your engagement photos? Do you have a favorite date spot? Or perhaps you got engaged in the area? Feel free to have fun and be creative with your engagement session. Think of how wonderful it would be, twenty years from now, to retrace your love story through photographs.

The Resort at the Mountain
The Resort at the Mountain is a hidden gem, nestled in the western highlands of Mt. Hood. I picked this image from Chris and Nikki’s wedding at The Resort last summer because it reminds me of a beautiful place, a warm summer evening, and why I love my job.
What Remains of the Day
Your wedding day will be a joyful and memorable event. In fact, it may be one of the happiest days of your life. You’re marrying best friend. Life doesn’t get much better than that.
After your wedding, three things that will continue to grow in personal value are your marriage, your wedding rings, and your wedding photographs.

Veiled
The tradition behind the bridal veil is, appropriately, shrouded in mystery. There are many stories about why this diaphanous and oh-so-feminine accessory has become the crowning touch to the bridal ensemble. Some sources say that it was to protect the bride from evil spirits. Other sources say that it was a symbol of a bride’s purity. One source explained that the veil was used to hide the bride’s face from an unwilling suitor!
Today, the bridal veil is worn as a fashion accessory and as a nod to tradition. Not everyone chooses to wear a veil. However, for those that do, I will never tire of photographing a bride and her veil. There is something uniquely beautiful about it that I find inspiring.
