I Love a Vineyard Wedding
Awesome yet difficult question, Paul! Oregon has countless amazing wedding venue options from which to choose. Personally, I really love shooting in urban locations such as The EcoTrust, but as of this moment if forced to choose, I’d have to say my favorite wedding locations are any of Oregon’s gorgeous vineyards. Typically when a couple chooses a vineyard wedding, the day’s main events happen on-site. Having key events including preparations (hair and makeup, getting in dress), first look, portraits, ceremony and the reception all occur in one location reduces stress and travel time. This opens up more time for the bride and groom to enjoy the day with friends and family, take extra time for beautiful, creative portraits or just relax and take it all in! I recently documented Janina and Alex’s wedding day at Vista Hills Vineyard in Dundee and absolutely loved the venue. The surroundings and accommodations were completely gorgeous and the staff was wonderful to work with!

Stealing Away
Stealing the bride and groom away from the reception for ten minutes of relaxed, fun and emotional portraits during golden hour makes for some of the loveliest images of the day! The light is ideal, stress levels are low and there is so much for the couple to celebrate! I don’t remember what exactly was so funny at this very moment, but I do remember what a blast we had riding the golf carts up to the 18th hole and spending time creating a very lovely set of portraits of the newlyweds.
Kari and Eric’s wedding day was absolutely wonderful. They were married at Old Laurelhurst Church and celebrated into the night at their Oswego Lake Country Club reception.

Delighted
I absolutely love the expressions displayed as Janina’s father is walking her up the aisle to Alex, her equally delighted husband-to-be. Moments such as these are priceless.

What’s So Funny?
Jamie whispered something clearly hilarious to his new bride Sarah! It’s truly an honor to capture such special moments and genuine happiness on film. For highlights of their beautiful, joyful, relaxed wedding day at Champoeg Wine Cellars, view Jamie and Sarah’s slideshow!

A deLuxe Celebration
I was honored when the very lovely, very talented Sara of Love June Bridal asked me to document her reception. She and her husband Mike had a private wedding in Florida, and a few weeks later they threw an elegant family party at Hotel deLuxe to celebrate their marriage. What a treat to photograph such a beautiful, relaxed and happy event! Of course I got them to sneek away from the party for about 10 minutes for some lovely urban portraits! More on Buttons
All week I’ve been looking forward to posting this image and lo and behold I just checked the past few days’ worth of My Portland Photographer entries to see Jamie Bosworth’s lovely post about buttons! Great minds think alike, Jamie!
I had the true pleasure of documenting Janina and Alex’s Vista Hills Vineyard wedding last weekend. Every single thing about the day was STUNNING. Among many other things that day, I was blown away by the beauty of Janina’s dress. I am a huge fan of an elegant line of buttons down a satin bridal gown and Janina certainly did every button proud. I can’t wait to share the images from their day on the Kate Kelly Photography blog in a few weeks!
Buttons, satin gowns, vineyards, live music, first dances, father daughter dances, notes from the groom to the bride, friends and family, newlyweds in love, vow exchanges – documenting these details, moments and interactions is my passion.

The Look of Love
Amy’s father was clearly so very proud to be escorting her down the aisle. Equally captivating is the love for her groom clear in Amy’s eyes and in her smile as she makes her way toward Todd. Isn’t love the best? Documenting moments such as these is my passion.

Jobs Well Done
There isn’t much which can top two little ones proudly serving as flower girl and ring bearer for their beloved Auntie! Lauren and Jack absolutely melted my heart a few weeks ago at Amy and Todd’s amazing wedding. This brother and sister duo knocked it out the park and were as happy, proud, sweet and well behaved as it gets!

Tis the Season for Engagement Sessions!
Engagement sessions are not only great fun, they are an amazing opportunity for photographers to really get to know the fabulous couples they’ll be working with on their most important day. Eric and Kari’s engagement session was a blast! And I learned how they interact together, what makes them smile, what poses and angles look best and how to get them to relax. Just as importantly, they got to know me better and they know much more of what to expect during the portrait session the day of the wedding.

Left Leaning
We walked right past an image of our President during Jennifer and Chris’ urban wedding-day portrait session! How appropriate, since Jen happens to be a big fan! Sometimes you’re just in the right place at the right time. With a beautiful bride. And a camera!

Husband and Wife
Judy and Quent exchanged vows in a very intimate ceremony attended by close friends and beloved family members. This image documents the moment immediately after they were pronounced husband and wife and it’s one of my favorites of their day. I consider it a privilege and an honor to record so many special moments such as this one during a wedding day.

One of These Kids Is Not Like the Others!
“Seven of these kids belong together
Seven of these kids are kind of the same
But one of these kids is doing her own thing
Now it’s time to play our game
It’s time to play our game.”
Jennifer and Chris had a most amazing wedding day complete with an extra cool bridal party. I had a blast and truly enjoyed my time with Jen and her rad bridesmaids the entire day! Can you tell which lady marches to the beat of her own drum? I LOVE it!

The Dress
I always make a point to get a few creative images of each bride’s beautiful gown before she puts it on. A wedding gown ON the bride is even more gorgeous! These are a few of my favorite images featuring Alyssa’s lovely dress before and after.

Gotta Love Engagement Sessions!
Engagement sessions are invaluable! As a photographer I get to know my clients really well during this hour-long shoot, I get to see how they interact with each other, how they are in front of the camera, what works best for them as couple. And most importantly we develop a rapport. Instead of showing up the day on the wedding day as a pseudo-stranger, as another vendor, I’m someone they are familiar with and comfortable in front of. They’ve experienced my (light) photo-direction and know what it’s like to be in front of my camera. And the couple has gorgeous images in their street clothes to boot, images which document this special time in their relationship! All of our wedding photography packages include an engagement session and I wouldn’t have it any other way! Check out the Kate Kelly Photography blog to see more from this oh-so-fun shoot with Amy and Todd.
