Why Are My Shoes So Shiny??
This young man is about three, if I remember correctly… a fine age for ring bearer duties. My favorite part of the getting ready photos is watching the little ones get pulled together… it’s never quite on time and there are always lots of questions. For the boys, the flowers are almost always a cause for concern… ‘Why do I have to? Is it going to hurt?’
The best you can do, between smiles, is to explain that all the men are wearing flowers and that they can take the jacket off later. Seems to work every time.
I usually pin the flowers on everyone. It may have started as a way to keep everyone on time but now it is also a great way for me to meet the principles. Besides, it is one less thing I have to worry about in PhotoShop. ;0)
Toast Points
Properly feted by their friends, Ali and Fletcher took the mic and sent big warm thankyous to their people… always a very civilized move on the part of the newlyweds.
I can’t begin to tell you how relaxed everything is at this point in a wedding but it always feels good. From here there is cake and dancing and more champagne… how bad could it be? ;0)
For those of you still making your plans, yes, there is a happy ending.
Let me know if you are planning for November or December… there might be some deals available in my shoulder season.
Rich in Sisters
Alyssa’s sisters had her back from the beginning… they kept her laughing and steady as she made her way to marry Fletcher… you couldn’t ask for more.
I posted this particular image to make a point about family shots… I do a lot of them at every wedding. I don’t blog them very often and my portfolio is light in this department for a reason… I figure each set of clients will have their range of needs and the varied personalities that go along with all of that. The thing that makes it work is to just show up, relax and let me see what I can bring out in the groups. It should be about the love, not about the pose. I have several of this group of siblings that are plenty formal but you and I all know that this is the one that caught the true sisters.
Be there… be real.
Artist’s Favorite…
I come to every wedding ready to document the entire day… the things requested and the many pieces I see that make the story. The random parts that appear in front of my camera, the ones that make my senses sing, are the ones I live for.
This little procession up from the damp beach in Gearhart… ecstatic mom on the rise and the Oregon Symphony guy waiting for the couple and their furry companion to pass… I couldn’t have planned this in any way… just have to track it through the eyepiece. It is a very favorite image of mine and I can’t imagine the day without it.

Magic Skies
Sara and Zach had a bright August day at Hunter Creek Farms in Wilsonville… a sort of fairy tale place just off the road. In my head it is probably a very versatile venue… lots of light and many open spaces to play in.
Theirs was a family oriented and classic sort of day… simple and elegant.
One of the main advantages of hiring a professional is that we have a sense of how a space will work in different seasons, different lights…. sometimes from having been there before and sometimes from scouting a space before your event. It’s a major strength in any case. Keep it in mind, ok?
All the Pretty Buttons
Best come prepared to work those lovely buttons… bring some patience and a crochet hook. I have to smile every time I listen to the ongoing process… many fingers and a few ruined manicures in the mix! This is why women of the upper classes had ladies in waiting… can you imagine getting dressed this way every day?
Does your photographer carry a hook? I do. ;0)
City Lovers
Random is a good thing. Sometimes weddings get to be way too structured… nine minutes for this or that part of the day and heaven help you if it goes to ten! Photographically, it is important to set aside some time for the lovers… it isn’t as important to micromanage that time. Mostly you need to go with your gut and shoot the magic along the way.
With Tricia and Dave, we set out from the Nines Hotel with a goal of getting to the Chinese Garden. We had six different shoots as we went… I think we maybe spent 40 minutes on that walkabout and the rewards were many.
My advice to any couple is take the time and trust your professional photographer… good things will happen. ;0)
Twilight
Jack scooped up his new bride and carried her off into the fading light at Camp Colton… long enough for a little face to face without the media… their friendly crowd happily indulging themselves in some serious finger food and fine libations.
This place is about as Oregon as you can get… it lends itself to solid shoes and a tolerance for pine needles on your tables. Quiet, private and far enough from the real world to make a host of memories that will last you a lifetime.
Come get married under our tall trees… consider it a standing invitation!
Live Your Life Out Loud!
Lucky people marry their best friends… lucky to be so much in love!
Megan and Jack celebrated with some of the best people possible… close family and fabulous friends… almost hard to tell the difference. It was a treat to be in the middle of all that love.
I can’t tell you how special this kind of crowd is. At this level it’s not so much a job as a great invitation to play an important part. Color me very happy!
Pastor Carroll Myers is my favorite officiant… if you are looking for a fine human being to help you step over that line into the married world please take a a little time to see if he is a fit for you. Friendly and flexible barely begins to describe him… see for yourself.
“The Most Dangerous Food is Wedding Cake”…
…according to James Thurber.
I don’t think he meant as a weapon, though. ;0)
Choose your mate as an equal in all things and you should do just fine.
Kim and Roman were one of my favorite couples… I liked that they were both feisty and playful… an even match.
Dad Gets So Shy…
I remember my father looking incredibly stoic at my wedding… he was very shy and kind of defiant all at the same time… makes me smile to think about it. He was 55 at the time and way more than camera shy even though he was a photographer, too. I think dads just get all mushy and some of them are overtaken by bouts of small talk or utter silence. ;0)
Mandy’s dad was pretty cute… he was appreciating her beautiful bouquet and trying not to lose his nerve.
He did very well.
Francoise Weeks is the artist behind the peony bouquet… I will have more of this wedding up in a few days in case you are curious.
What’s Not to Like?
The world needs more champagne and cake… it just does.
These were from a lovely little beach wedding… a small crowd with a lot of class.
Cool special effects courtesy of Lensbaby. ;0)
“thankyouverymuch…”
Portland’s Lan Su Garden was the choice for Tricia and Dave’s destination wedding… they came in from Palm Desert to soak up our damp air at the very end of May. She wanted as many bits of Portland as we could fit into the day so we did a tour of the streets between The Nines and the Garden. We were headed to the Chinatown Gate when we stumbled across the new location of The 24 Hour Church of Elvis… I have never seen two people so excited by such a random turn!
From there to the Gate and on to Voodoo Donuts and the Paris Theatre… top that with a free pedicab to the Gardens and it was a stunning beginning to a great celebration.
The rabbi didn’t seem to mind that they were already married in the eyes of Elvis…

Wild Abandon…
Every now and then I get a glimpse of serendipities… small happy details. It always makes me smile to see this sort of magic.
Francoise Weeks is one of those whose art is planned but never rigid. Like me, she loves the client who trusts the work… take a general idea and then let the talent fly!
Hire the true professionals… they love and live what they do. You won’t be sorry.
Real and True…
Erin and Rob were almost on their toes in anticipation…the first sight of each other was on one of the balconies at the Jupiter Hotel…up out of the friendly crowd. They had a chance to really connect before the aisle walk and before all of those other people needed any part of them.
True love is a rare find… it’s nice to see it go by.

Prelude
Molly and her women got ready for the wedding at a lovely B&B on the edge of Newberg. I was struck by the quiet spaces before all of the giggling and chaos that generally takes over on a wedding day. As her photographer, I was gratified by the beauty of the space but I think it also helped keep her calm before Pete showed up.
They went on to a local vineyard and had a fine party late into that August night… my favorite part was still that hour of grace notes early in the day.
We have some marvelous talent on this blog… care to see who might be open on your date?
A Show of Hands…
The crowd gave these two a heartfelt, rock and roll welcome into their reception… everyone on their feet, hands clapping and lots of smiling as Betsy and Alex came in to dinner. It’s always a treat to photograph an event where the guests are just as excited as the newlyweds… it makes for good pictures and a lovely day.
Maybe that means you should invite the people who care about you. Maybe the extended list isn’t as important? I guess I am trying to say make it count. Surround yourself with the ones you love.
This wedding is featured on my blog if you’d like to see more.
Getting married? We have some fine talent here… check to see who is available on your day.
Thank Heaven for Little Girls
If you ask, she might just tell you “I only came for the cake.”
Jamie Bosworth Photographer… that’s me looking for the little moments.
Classic
You can’t tell by looking that she ran giggling to sit on this piece of sculpture at the museum… at least she checked first to see if it was truly old. We took a few shots in a lighter mood and then I asked to her to turn her face… she became a little serious and very elegant.
In my head, I imagine this photograph being passed on to granddaughters years from now… I wonder what they will think?
Let me know if you’d like to make a little history.
Time
You may not notice for a few years but, later, when you look back at your photographs, you will realize that these were your glory days… when you were both unbelievably young and beautiful! Catch this time while you can… make sure it gets done well.
Shannon and Randy played in the wheat fields before their reception… it was a great break before the whole town of Condon came to party with them.
The Milky Way spread out over these wide fields afterwards.
If you’d like to see more of their wedding from last summer, check out my blog post… we had a great time!
