1997 was a very good year…
I know it was a great year because these two are still madly in love… partners for life. These are the people who make my working life worth living.
There are some weddings I remember with absolute clarity and it’s not the venue or the food or the sword dancing… it’s the emotional intensity that brings it back for me. To be part of the crowd invited to witness that level of love is so special… the world could use a lot more of that.
Bring your love to the beach or bring it to the vineyards, but bring it no matter what else you do.
A toast to lovers
The toasts kept running up around the newlyweds like small friendly waves… enough to keep them just a little off balance… the tears and the smiles coming every time the waves tickled in from the crowd.
I know I can’t bring home what was said but I can sure bring home how it felt to hear it.
Two peas…
The Best Man had them roaring during the signing of the license… the listening crowd erupted and the newlyweds reacted as one.
Personally, I believe that is a very good sign. ;0)
Our group blog is one year old today…. I hope you will explore the wonderful range of work archived here. If you are planning a wedding, we have 20 fine talents to study. We also have a date checker to make your homework a little less frustrating.
Happy Birthday MPP!
Barefoot + Smitten
The look on his face tells it all.
No panic… his girlfriend, she of the bare feet, is checking out her sister’s ring… very nice.
Now, two years later, Madeline will marry this very sweet young man.
I think he played it well, don’t you?
If you have plans, check out some of the best photographers in town.
Guns and Glamour
I can’t tell you how many people react to this marvelous bride… Erin’s look is such a mix of sweet and sexy… everyone wants to know about her.
Well, she has been a favorite of mine… she is a full-on true person and I am always buoyed by our conversations.
Part of that straight shooting personality translated into the style she brought to the day… her dress, her hair… her attitude.
All of which brings me to that sassy birdcage veil… Andrea Hoyt of August Veils was the designer for this little number. Andrea is one of Portland’s finer talents… check with her for all of the spiffy little details.
I was thrilled when Erin put this on right before the ceremony… old school glamour rocking the new world!

Who knew?
Alan is hard pressed to understand just how heavy that new ring is… I don’t think any of us is ready for how much we are aware of the new weight!
I remember my own very clearly… it seemed to clang against things for weeks but I was also glad to have it so… a sweet reminder of a new journey.
Good photography is real and should bring back all sorts of sweet memories.
Come see more of my work… I’d be happy to talk to you about what we could do.

An Unexpected Guest…
Well… not totally unexpected. Madeline and Lee knew the dress would be there, though only for the dancing. Her mom was blown away when Madeline changed out of her long slinky gown, mid reception, into this snappy little number from so long ago… in fact, when she had it altered they found some rice in the hem. Imagine that rice just hanging out over the years it took for the daughter to grow up and decide to wear the dress… how cool is that?!
It was a great little dress for dancing and Madeline owned it… just like she did the entire day. What a great time we had!
Take your wedding for the ride of your life… hire the right people, live happily ever after.

Dana wasn’t in the cocktail crowd for more than a couple of seconds when the girls converged… let’s see your ring!!
Real friends, real time… it doesn’t get any better than that.

A very favorite Bride…
Jill married her other half in 2005… back when Elk Cove Vineyards still had their astounding oak tree. One of the things I remember about their day was her calm preparation… all sorts of kinetic activity on the fringes yet she was able to keep this steady move towards Michael and all that he meant to her.
This was a special day in all respects. I have photographed Jill in the years since for theatre work and I am so very glad to share a planet with her… sometimes great people get married and make the world a better place!
Is it your turn? Please consider me or one of our very talented people if you are shopping for a photographer… we have someone you need to know.
Heart on Sleeve
“Jamie,
I cannot thank you enough for being who you were that entire glorious day – I am still floating somewhere between the dappled light of Gigi’s garden, and the glow cast by my daughter and her handsome prince. I will never regret taking the air out of that other potential bride’s tires last January.”
— Melanie
Nicole’s mom, Melanie, managed to keep it together, just barely, when her daughter came down the aisle with Dad.
True pictures happen when people bring their whole hearts to the day… you can bank on it.

Cold play…
Stacey married Shamen on a day cold enough to kill one of my cameras.
That didn’t stop them from having a great time. We were at Sky Camp Lodge in Fall Creek and everything was iced over… including the net.
They had to beat the ice off of it with a stick to get her ball to drop so they could continue to play.
She whipped his ass happily ever after.
Happy New Year to all of you!
Breathing is good…
Katy was as cool as could be until it was time to make that long walk… her parents were waiting to walk her down the aisle. They seemed to understand that she needed a minute to take a very deep breath.
Marriage is not something you enter into on a whim… there is nothing light about it. Beyond the romance and the glamour of it is a promise to make a life with someone and you have to really know that going in.
Best of luck to any of you about to give it a go… give it everything you have.
Many Merries to all of you…
I hope the holidays are great!
Jamie
Sweetness and Light
Complete and utter delight is what I see in these faces… moments after all of the hoopla and family crush, Jessica and Nick had a few moments mostly to themselves… if you don’t count the pesky photographer with the long lens. ;0)
May they live long and prosper!

A Feast of the Heart
Jaimee & Everett had one of those beach weddings everybody dreams about… the perfect day in the perfect house on a clear, breezy August day.
About 25 very special friends and family crafted a circle around them for their vows on the sand and then trooped back to the warmer house for spectacular food and drink… all prepared by the wedding party and many of the guests.
I have seen a few hands on weddings in my time and all of them have brought the best food to the table… there is something about showmanship in the air… pull up a chair!

An Easy Elegance
April and Tim got married a very long time ago… it was the end of August in 1993… Oregon vineyards were just getting to be popular.
I love that this is a fairly timeless photo… yes, her dress has sleeves but it is absolutely gorgeous and would certainly work today.
Tim looks as smitten as anyone could hope for and she is stunning in the late light.
True elegance has no time frame.

Merle
I was waiting at the church. It was a bright Saturday at the end of October in 1994 and my bride and groom were running late. I turned to see this man come into the sanctuary at Holy Rosary… he was moving a little slowly and carrying a most wonderful wedding portrait under his arm. Curious, as always, I asked him if he was there for the wedding? He looked somewhat confused and said he was there for Mass. He thought it was Sunday. I asked him about the photograph and he introduced me to his late wife.
John was 94 when we met and Merle, his true love, had been gone for 3 years. They must have been married for close to 70 years if I can go by the photo… he carried it everywhere he went. I have friends who had seen him at Lloyd Center… always with Merle tucked in beside him.
John and his Merle are gone now but the pictures remain as does the legend of love.
Raise your glass to the love that lasts…
The boy at the beach
Mostly dressed up and waiting for the grownups… it always seems to work this way. He held it together pretty well.
When his turn came, this ‘ring burier’ put on his red boots and took his job quite seriously.
All of the grownups smiled proudly.
Oh, how I love the found portraits!
Not your mama’s wedding music…
If you happened to be strolling by the Cleaners at the Ace Hotel you might have lingered in the soft summer air to listen… the almost gypsy music spilling onto the sidewalk was so very clever and beautiful… no cliched tunes tapping the toes of the happy crowd inside.
I’d like to give you the opportunity to think outside the box for your party… there are three links to the individuals who played this gig… mix and match or hire ‘em up straight, you will love it!

Rising
Whenever I have the chance to wander at a wedding, my eyes are open for the possibles, the way the light might change… looking for things the bride might miss. This wedding was in mid October and we had a cool, clear day. I kept my eye on the fading light as their ceremony moved into dusk. After the flurry of the cocktail hour, when everyone was inside at dinner, this marvelous moon was rising all by itself over the velvet greens and the empty chairs.
Zenith Vineyards is one of our regional delights… fairly new and thoughtfully designed with weddings in mind. Come to Oregon… get married in our little corner of paradise.
There’s no place like home…
The young one had some pretty darn sharp patent leather boots of her own but she apparently had some traveling ideas about Nancy’s red shoes… last seen walking slowly towards the front door in her white anklets and those red, red shoes.
