Garter Toss at The Oregon Garden

Feb 26 | James McCormick | no comments » |Share/Bookmark

Sometimes the boys do try to catch the garter! I have always loved the lights in the ceiling at The Oregon Garden, so I got nice and low to be sure that they were included in this fun shot!

Pray for Sun and Plan for Rain!

You never know with the Oregon Coast, but one thing that you can always rely on is that it will be dramatic! A passionate kiss, a stiff breeze, and the one you love. What more can you ask for?

Sparklers can really add to your get-away, just make sure you have a great plan to light them, and that they last long enough to get them all going at the same time. Check out Sparklers Online for a bunch of options!

I love light, all kinds of light. Sun light, barn light, car light, or candle light. It’s all wonderful if used correctly!

Just One More Before I Go

Jan 22 | James McCormick | 1 comment » |Share/Bookmark

After last weekend’s wedding, after we had already packed up all of our gear for the night and were headed to our car we passed the groom’s grandfather’s 1953 Chevrolet under the street lights. It had been pouring rain earlier when we were photographing the bride and groom together, but the rain had stopped and the car was covered with little droplets that reflected the lights of the building and the street lamps. I gave my assistant my best “pleeeease?” face and asked her to go back and grab the bride and groom for a moment while I unloaded a camera and lens from the freshly packed gear bags. I’m so glad I did, they are my favorite photos from the wedding.

Kate in the soft glow of Autumn

Jan 01 | James McCormick | no comments » |Share/Bookmark

The beautiful soft-white color and vintage texture of Kate’s dress were so beautiful that I was determined to find a photo that showed them both off properly. Kate is an associate editor at Seattle bride magazine and she really did plan the perfect wedding!

As the Light Fades…

Just as the sun was slipping below the horizon I snuck outside with the newlyweds to take advantage of the incredible sunset that was peeking out from the clouds.

Behind me the whirl-wind of activity was already set in motion, but the dress, soon to be the star of the show, waited patiently.

A Little Diversion

Britney + Dustin needed an opportunity to get away just prior to their ceremony, so we took a little hike into the property surrounding the private estate that was their wedding venue. We’d already finished up the portraits that we’d intended to get when they turned to each other (and in perfect light!) to just be together as they waited for us to gather our gear. Sometimes the most honest moments are the unplanned ones.

A Stolen Moment

No moms, or dad, or aunts, or friends or caterers. Just Nicole and Michael sneaking away for a moment to realize that, yes, they really are married!

Sneaky Bride

Oct 30 | James McCormick | 1 comment » |Share/Bookmark

Meagan wanted to create an image from her wedding day that was just for her new husband, Joe, so we snuck off late into the reception and found our way back to the ceremony location. The sun had set about 15 minutes prior to us being able to get away, so there was just a hint of twilight bouncing off of the clear Autumn sky. I threw a handful of the petals that were strewn along the aisle into the air and, ever so slowly, made a few exposures. Even though there is a slight blur from the very long exposure, I still think it’s perfect. And so did Joe.

Vintage Location, Vintage Umbrellas and a Vintage Lens

Oct 23 | James McCormick | 3 comments » |Share/Bookmark

As Kristina planned her late-autumn wedding at the Heceta Head Lighthouse, she realized that the possibility of rain was pretty high. She put so much work into making sure that all of the elements of her wedding to Ian fit her venue that she couldn’t imagine carrying around a modern umbrella and spoiling the look that she had so carefully planned.

After a little digging around online she found Bella Umbrella, an incredible umbrella shop in Seattle that carries vintage umbrellas! A couple of days later a box arrived with a large array of vintage umbrellas that fit her vintage autumn theme! I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to use one of my vintage lenses to perfectly capture the look.

Bryant + Sarah Elope on the Oregon Coast!

Oct 16 | James McCormick | 3 comments » |Share/Bookmark

Sarah is from Australia, and Bryant is from Maine. They’ve been together for a few years, and just couldn’t figure out a way to include both families in their wedding with out one family feeling left out, so they made a plan. Vacation on the West Coast (driving from Seattle to San Francisco) and get married along the way. As soon as they found the Heceta Head Lighthouse, they knew it was the perfect plan.

Finally!

Oct 09 | James McCormick | no comments » |Share/Bookmark

One of my favorite moments at every wedding is when the bride and groom get back to the end of the aisle and take a moment to realize that they have actually, really, gotten married. I always try to anticipate where they will be and make sure I am in the best location to get a great shot of it!

A Little Moment Alone

Sep 18 | James McCormick | no comments » |Share/Bookmark

Majeed + Rachell took a moment away from their crazy reception at Paradise Springs to sneak in a little time alone and let it soak in that they are finally, really, married! We took a short stroll among the tall timbers and incredible architecture to capture a few images away from the crowd and all of the aunts and uncles with their own cameras.
