Beach Wedding
I love shooting at the beach and the beach is a great place for a wedding! This photo is from a great wedding last summer in Seaside.
Is it beach weather yet?

New addition
I have recently added a fantastic shooter to my studio. Thomas Boyd is a photographer at the Oregonian and will be working with me as well. I have long loved his work and am happy to have him onboard. This is an image he shot last year in LA. See more of his wedding work on my blog and welcome Tom!

Details
I love the details at wedding’s. My philosophy – if you paid money for it, I’m taking a picture of it! Wedding photography is so important. Pictures are the only thing you have to remember the tiny details you spent so much time planning, making, getting ready. The details tell a huge part of the story of the day (like the makeshift red “panic” button the groom put on the bouquet for his bride) and they are often my favorite pages in the album.

Come in close
There is something I love about smaller intimate wedding ceremonies. No chairs, no aisle, no microphones, just everyone standing in a close circle, everybody a part of the ceremony.

Fun in the Snow
Spent Sunday up at my favorite place in the world, Mt. Hood. It snowed like crazy all day long. Nothing is more fun than the snow. I love it! Tori and Henry are big skiers/snowboarders so before the wedding at Timberline Lodge, we did a few runs and I took some photos, you can see a photo from that on my blog. At the wedding, we kept waiting and waiting for the snow to slow down so we could go outside and take some photos, but it never did, so, we just braved the elements and made this photo, which I really like. By the time we decided to give it a go, it was pitch black outside, but no worries, I just lit up the scene with 3 Canon speedlights to make them pop from the black and show the snow falling against the night sky. Makes we want to grab my board and get back up to the fresh powder!

Is it spring yet?
I love baseball. I can’t wait for baseball season to get here, so I thought I’d post an engagement photo from last year. Jon plays for the Portland Beavers so we shot their engagement photos at PGE Park in Portland. Only 40 days or so until pitchers and catchers (and Jon here) report to spring training! I can’t wait for some warm weather and some hot dogs.
I have just posted my 2009 year in review on my blog, if you want to see some photos I think are cool, go check it out.

Look into the light
Sometimes, you walk past a random wall in a hallway and think it might make a cool photo. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. The light making the wall look like a heart was pure accident and one of those little lucky things that happen from time to time.

Merry Christmas!
I was digging through the archive looking for a wedding photo with a christmas tree in it and found this photo from 2006. This was the first look and I remembered it all over again. You can just feel to excitement between the two of them.

Dance!
When I walked into the Oregon Garden in Silverton and saw the lights stringing from the ceiling, I was hoping to make a photo like this. The great dance moves made it all work.
Have a great Holiday!

Jose y Annie
Last week, I shot the coolest wedding in Guadalajara, Mexico. In this photo the Bride and her friend are carrying party balloons down the street. Guadalajara is not your typical Mexican destination and this wedding was complete with a Magician, Samba Dancers, Belly Dancers, Mariachi Band, and fireworks. See more from this awesome Mexican adventure on my blog.

In Your Face!
He seemed like a nice enough kid throughout the day. Did what he was told. Performed his duties. Dressed up nice when he didn’t want to. When the Bride and Groom came running out to the getaway car, everyone threw lavender rocks and that nice enough kid took aim with a fistful of rocks from point blank range. Nobody saw it coming. I later told this couple, “I love that photo, I’m blowing it up for my studio”. To which they responded, “…us too. we made an 8×10 and sent it to his mother with the thank you card!”

Kids will be kids
I love kids. I love kids at weddings too. You never know what’s going to happen. They could be cute and adorable, or they could meltdown. Either way, it makes a good photo. This little guy had a meltdown right in the middle of the ceremony. There is so much going on in this image that I love. First, the Dad. He’s got a look on his face like “oh boy, here we go again.” Second, the other kids. They are the only ones watching as his meltdown goes into full swing. They are most likely thinking, “oh man, he is in TROUBLE!”. And finally, the adults and the Bride and Groom. Nobody is even paying attention. The ceremony is just continuing on as it should. I love it. Having a couple of kids – ages 5 and 2 – myself, I can appreciate a good meltdown and this one ranked right up there with some of the best I have seen.

Brad & Hillary – Video
My latest video from Brad & Hillary’s wedding at Zenith Vineyards in Salem back in August. I love love love shooting both stills and video and love the video editing process almost as much as the stills. It is such a great new creative outlet and a great way to remember your day in sounds, pictures and video all in a few minute long clip. Please check out the video to the left and let me know what you think!

Watch out!
This photo is an oldie but a goodie. I shot it a few years ago in West Linn and still have a copy of it hanging on my wall in the studio. I love it. I love capturing moments like this at weddings. The lesson here: careful, those sparklers will getcha!

Follow that car!
I sometimes like to stalk follow the bride and groom as they drive off, keeping a camera on the seat next to me because you never know what might happen or what might make a cool photo at a stop light or while driving away from the reception.

Only in Oregon
A couple weeks ago, I posted a photo from a very rainy day. The rainiest I have ever shot a wedding in. But one of the things I love about Oregon, is that it can be pouring one second and sunny the next. Although it mostly poured at this wedding at the Resort at the Mountain in Welches, the sun did come out for about 5 minutes and we walked through the standing water on the golf course for about 10 feet before it started pouring again. Gotta love Oregon.

More from Carmel
A couple of weeks ago I posted an image from the La Playa Hotel in Carmel, CA. Here is another view. This from a remote camera on the balcony of one of the rooms. Such a great courtyard for a wedding ceremony. You can’t tell because of the fog, but the ocean is just to the right of the frame.

Can’t hide the excitment
I love little moments like this at a wedding. They happen so quickly most do not even notice, but I am always on the lookout for them.
Even though I am mainly a Portland photographer. I love to travel for weddings. This event was in the wine country just north of San Francisco last weekend.
