Bridal Veil Lakes
In an earlier post this week, Paul Rich asked both photographers and brides for their favorite wedding day venues. Tough question, Paul, as we have the privilege of photographing at some of the most unique and stunning areas in the Pacific Northwest (if not the entire country!)
We can be in the heart of the funky Pearl District or Classic Park Blocks one week, the stunning Oregon coast the next week, and at one of the breath taking venues of the Columbia River Gorge the week after that.
It’s a happy coincidence that we were planning to feature a favorite image from Emily and Jeremy’s wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes. Regardless if we’re photographing a Spring, Summer, or Fall wedding, the area is never less than stunning!

Bright Lights and Big Kisses
I could name a dozen breathtaking settings for an engagement sessions. My favorites by far, however, are those that are meaningful to our couples. Hayley and Matt met at the Clark Country Fair, so we returned to where it all started for sparkly and colorful engagement session – complete with a ferris wheel ride and cotton candy.

All You Need is Love
We were excited to photograph the very first wedding at Alderbrook Park Resort in Hockinson, Washington. We were more excited to work with the team from The Wedding Lounge and the Children’s Cancer Association to provide Pheobe, who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and is awaiting a lung transplant, the wedding of her dreams free of charge. An acoustic guitarist played “All You Need is Love” as Phoebe walked down the aisle to exchange vows with Morgan in an intimate ceremony attended by family and close friends. A barbecue reception, champagne toasts, cupcakes, and dancing rounded out the celebration. We extend our thanks to the Children’s Cancer Association for allowing us to participate in this joyful event!

Urban Kiss
Downtown Portland has so many exceptionally beautiful areas for urban wedding: The East Bank Esplanade, The Pearl District, The St Johns Bridge, The Alberta Arts District, The Park Blocks, as well as countless little corners of the city we stumble upon. The iconic Portland Center of the Performing Arts sign is a favorite of Portland Wedding Photographers. We are no exception.
Classic location or your little corner of the world – it’s all The Art of Joy.

Drink the Date!
We know how important it is to capture the details at weddings, and love the challenge of finding an original way to show them off. Michelle and Alex took the table numbers a new direction by labeling each tables’ wine bottle. We thought it would be fun to take an image of that did not only show off their clever idea, but also commemorate the date!

Live Well…Laugh Often…Love Much
These are the words on the first gift Dom ever gave Erin – a bracelet – which she carried wrapped around her bouquet for their wedding. The words and sentiment resonated throughout their wedding, on their programs, the charms the bridesmaids wore on a silver chain around their neck (Erin’s gift to them), and most importantly, the spirit of the occasion. The smile and laughs you see on the two of them during their sparkler exit from The Aerie at Eagle Landing is simply a moment of many.

It Takes a Village
There were no attendants on hand for Emily and Jeremy’s Bridal Veil Lakes wedding. They wanted ALL their family and friends to participate in their wedding ceremony. Jeremy chose to dance his way around the lake and down the aisle with two dozen of his closest friends. That’s Jeremy on the far right, leading the revelers.
Emily invited each and every guest to sing along or play a carefully stashed-under-the-chair musical instrument as she surprised Jeremy mid ceremony by singing “500 Miles” by The Proclaimers. .
Before the couple exchanged their rings, they were passed around for each guest to bestow their own blessing or wish upon the two bands. JP and I have shot over 900 weddings professionally, and this was the first time I heard these words from the officiant: ” Best. Wedding. Ever.”

Classic Vinyl
There are more to details than the flowers and the jewelry. The tunes played on classic vinyl records (We won’t call it vintage, but maybe retro) were a huge part of Sarah and Matt’s wedding. Just like photography, a professional DJ or band is worth the investment for your once in a lifetime event.

Shall We Spell It Out for You?
I know I’ve said it before, but photographing the rings in a way that is original and reflects the spirit of the day is one of the fun challenges of our job. The personal touches of Emily and Jeremy’s Bridal Veil Lakes wedding bursted with their fun-loving and carefree personalities including a table full of games for their guests.

June Bride – Oregon Style!
Bill and Sharon traveled from their home in Alaska to be married on Mt. Hood at Timberline Lodge. For some couples, having snow at their June wedding might be a disaster, but for these two it was business as usual! The day was about the love, then fun, and an occasional snowball.

Rose Festival Time!
Don’t you love the way businesses in Portland have their own unique way of supporting the Rose Festival? The crab at Jake’s Grill is one of my favorite icons of this time of year. There was no way I was going to photograph Geri and Bob’s wedding at The Governor without documenting the unique style of the time of year.

The Richness of Details
The Indian Wedding ceremony is a beautiful event full of tradition and symbolism. It is a joy to witness and a treat to photograph with it’s multitude of details. We had the privilege of documenting Abhishek and Monika’s wedding at the Resort at the Mountain and were truly overcome by the richness and beauty of the ceremony.

A Splash of Color
We had the honor of photographing a spectacular wedding celebration of Monika and Abhishek last weekend. The stunning Resort at the Mountain was the setting for their event. The Resort’s scenery is breath-taking and the bonus for us was finding a few unexpected splashes of color at the venue. It was the perfect compliment to the traditional Indian wedding attire, don’t you think?

The Joy of Elegance
I love the bridal portrait. For me, it’s the simple elegance of a shot that shows the true radiance of the bride. I took this shot of Jennifer using the window light from her suite at the Avalon Hotel and Spa moments before she headed downstairs to the Aquariva to meet her groom. While there were plenty of stunning images from a downtown photo session, this is still one of my favorites.

Radiance
Jennifer and Greg were all about the moments. The fleeting glance, the hug, the laughs (there were lots of laughs), and the wonderful smiles! The weather cooperated on their wedding day and we were able to have our photo session outside in one Portland’s urban gardens where they received well wishes from loads of locals. How could you not stop and marvel at such a radiant couple?
