Wedding cakes are an important part of wedding celebrations. During Roman times it was a thin wheat cake, representing bounty, that was crumbled over the brides head to ensure fertility.
The origins of wedding cakes may be long forgotten, but the ritual of cutting the cake is always a crowd pleaser. Especially when the groom decides to smash the cake in the brides face. To be fair, this doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, it usually wasn’t much of a surprise.
To smash or not to smash? Let your wedding celebration be a reflection of who you are together. Only you can decide what is right for you. Which rituals to honor and even new traditions you create together. Either way, let them eat cake!
