Inspired by Old

When my passion for photography was in discovery, I spent many weekends at Borders flipping through collections by the photographer’s of old.  Two of my favorites have always been Cartier-Bresson and Brassai (those links are image searches on Google so you can get straight to their work).  My absolute favorite collection of all is “Brassai: Paris by Night”, a must have for any person who appreciates light, contrast and texture.  It still surprises me how much that book evokes from places in me I don’t often pay attention to.

I photographed Dave & Sarah at the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna.  I was looking forward to the lighting and mood it has at night.  The schedule didn’t allow, but I did get one photo that reminds me (vaguely, as my talent pales in comparison) a bit of something one of the photographers of old might have taken as a couple strolled through the city.

Check out those collections…I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!!

Part of me loves that you got to shoot in Vienna and part of me just likes the ageless aspect… someday, this will have been years ago and it does speak to the old ways… to the BIg Dogs of our medium.
Nice.
