Unboring formals

Although formal photos play a minor role in our typical wedding coverage, we still make a point of trying to do something unique and interesting for every wedding assignment. For Jennifer and Andy, who work in design/film in LA, we set out to emulate the kind of group photo that you would find in Vanity Fair magazine.

Since the groups were big, the situation called for portable strobes. And a patient hotel manager, who let us drag the furniture all over the lobby. But time was also tight: we had only 15 minutes with the guys and then 15 minutes with the girls. So things needed to happen fast.

Luckily, Andy has the charisma of 10 average guys and his big crew of groomsmen were fun, patient and friendly. The first and last shots were the keepers, and this one is our favorite. To see how the ladies turned out, click here.

Nicole Wagner - What a GREAT shot!! I love this! they look like they would have been awesome to work with.

Jamie Bosworth - I love the unstructured nature of this group shot…it’s hard to get people out of that stand up straight mind set thing…nice!

Joni Shimabukuro - Annie Liebowitz watch your back!
